Behind every successful program, community event, and meaningful connection at Sisters Working It Out are the dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and heart to our mission.
We are deeply grateful to all of our SWIO volunteers for the countless ways you show up for our community. Whether you are helping at an event, sharing your talents, supporting a program, or simply being there when someone needs encouragement, your contributions make a difference. Your commitment helps us reach more people, create meaningful experiences, and continue building healthier communities.
This quarter, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Hope Coleman, a valued member of the SWIO family and Lead Coordinator for the Fire Starters Young Ambassador Program.
Hope first connected with SWIO after attending one of our events. Inspired by the organization’s work and mission, she signed up to become a volunteer. From there, her involvement continued to grow, eventually leading her to the Young Ambassadors Program.
Today, Hope serves as one of three Young Ambassadors Program Coordinators, working collaboratively to plan and facilitate programming, engage and support ambassadors, coordinate sessions and activities, and create meaningful opportunities for young women to connect, grow, and lead
A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO THE MISSION
For Hope, her work with SWIO is deeply personal.
As a breast cancer survivor, she understands firsthand the importance of education, advocacy, support, and having a strong community. Her own journey inspired her to use her experience and voice to empower other women, especially young women, to prioritize their health and advocate for themselves.
Through the Young Ambassadors Program, Hope and her fellow coordinators are helping extend SWIO’s mission to the next generation. The program creates a space for education, advocacy, mentorship, and leadership development while encouraging young women to take what they learn back into their families and communities.
A MOMENT THAT MADE AN IMPACT
One of Hope’s most meaningful experiences with SWIO was participating in her first Young Ambassadors Program panel.
Having the opportunity to share her story and experiences with other young women was incredibly special. It reminded her that her journey could be used to encourage, educate, and empower others, inspiring her to become even more involved with the program.
For Hope, this work is about turning experience into purpose.
“As a breast cancer survivor, being able to turn my experience into something that can educate, encourage, and empower other young women is incredibly meaningful,” she shared. “It gives me a sense of purpose knowing that my journey can help another woman feel seen, supported, and empowered to advocate for herself.”
HER MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY
Hope believes that one of the most important steps toward better health is learning to advocate for yourself. She recognizes that many communities continue to face challenges such as limited access to quality care, financial barriers, gaps in health education, and experiences of not always feeling heard or understood by healthcare providers.
Her message to the SWIO community is simple, powerful, and one we can all carry with us:
“Your health matters, your voice matters, and you are your greatest advocate. Never be afraid to ask questions, speak up when something doesn’t feel right, and prioritize yourself. And most importantly, know that you don’t have to navigate your journey alone.”
Through her continued involvement with SWIO, Hope hopes to create spaces where young women feel empowered to advocate for their health, share their voices, support one another, and recognize the power of community.
We are grateful to Hope for sharing her story, lending her voice, and helping us build a stronger foundation for the next generation of women leaders.
